A holistic approach to wellness that emphasizes balancing the body and mind through lifestyle, food, and self-awareness. As these practices became a meaningful part of my life, a thoughtful coworker suggested the name Dosha Bodywork & Wellness—a reflection of this philosophy.
Ayurveda teaches that each person has a unique mind-body type, or dosha, which can be primarily Vata, Pitta, or Kapha—or a blend of two or all three. Each dosha has its own set of characteristics and responds differently to massage therapy:
Vata (air + space): This dosha tends to be energetic yet prone to anxiety, tension, and dryness. People with a strong Vata benefit most from warm, grounding, and slow massage techniques that calm the nervous system and hydrate the skin.
Pitta (fire + water): Pitta types are driven, intense, and prone to inflammation or heat in the body. They do well with cooling, moderate-pressure massage that soothes irritation, relieves stress, and helps regulate inner heat.
Kapha (earth + water): Kapha individuals are stable and calm, but can feel heavy, sluggish, or congested. They benefit from stimulating, invigorating massage that boosts circulation and encourages lymphatic movement.
While I’m not yet trained in Ayurvedic massage, I have great respect for its depth and complexity. I’m currently seeking the right teacher to study under so I can one day offer this healing tradition with the integrity and care it deserves.
